Soulash v0.7.0 The End released!


Greetings fellow gods,

We're in the endgame now. Soulash v0.7.0 The End introduces victory conditions and two victory scenarios, for the first time in the existence of the game, it's possible to win! This also marks a very important milestone for us, as the game is essentially complete. The whole story is in the game now. The only thing left for us to do is to keep improving what's already available, maybe add a couple more features, before releasing the game on Steam, and update the Itch version with the graphics mod.

You'll be happy to hear that the graphics version is also complete, we're fleshing it out with extra animations to make it even more beautiful. If you haven't yet seen the preview, now would be a good time to check it out.

Here are the patch notes:

Added

- Dreamworld accessible with Emperor's Crown or Hand of Sandaver - the game has to start in version 0.7 to spawn these items.
- New item Phoenix Feather designed by Sinful, allowing to cheat death!
- Endgame and two victory scenarios.
- 30 new locations - Dreamworld locations and multiple alternative locations that can be chosen on new game creation.
- 11 new enemies
- New indicator for hearing sounds in tiles outside vision.
- Option in settings to disable camera shakes.
- Option in user settings to disable world map generation during debugging.
- Added scrolling in menu screens (Cemetery, Modding) with the mouse wheel, for list of resources and content sections.
- Added scrolling in modding editors (Map, Entity, Ability) with the mouse wheel.
- Added damage number animations for damage over time effects.
- Griphon leaves a brand new corpse.

Changed

- Changed scoring formula and added Scoring tutorial.
- Changed tutorial popups to not trigger too often at the very beginning of the game.
- Improved camera shakes.
- Improved performance in AI heavy areas.
- Increased Halberd durability from 100 to 200.
- Changed notification animation when you hear the enemy outside line of sight.
- Moat and blood moat can be frozen.

Fixed

- Abilities no longer stop weather animations.
- Fixed animation for Storm of Steel.
- Fixed selection markers in graphic mods editor.
- Durability drops correctly on uwielded tools when crafting.
- Fixed message that shows up when Sangre comes.
- Fixed Blizzard, Storm, and Ghastly Weather animations under a roof.
- Fixed pickup and equip sound for shields.
- Fixed energy potion effect.

Modding

- The first version of the modding documentation is available in Soulash/docs/index.html with instructions on how to make your own maps and entities.
- New component Resurrector that can be attached to the item to allow cheating death for the wielder or to the actor itself.
- While holding the left ctrl key, you can now select tiles in Map Editor multiple times to add them.
- While holding the left alt key, you can now deselect tiles in Map Editor multiple times to remove only some of the selected tiles.
- Added scrolling in modding editors (Map, Entity, Ability) with the mouse wheel.
- Fixed crash on entity editing when added equipment component without any item.
- Ignore roof checkbox in Animation Editor now correctly saves when unchecked.
- Items are properly saved in the backpack when selected in the Equipment component.


So what's next? Our main focus will shift now to quality of life improvements, balancing and making some classes more exciting, improving access to the crafting tools and stations, fixing higher resolutions, integrating Steam Workshop and Achievements, alternative movement, and a lot more. In January we will start a closed beta on Steam where we will invite our Patrons and some modders to help us in this final stage. We'll start a modding contest for closed beta keys very soon, so if you're interested it's the best time to start reading up on that documentation that was just released. We plan to release the game on Steam in March, but since we're just 2 people and can't really promise everything will go smoothly, we might have to postpone it. Soulash will also be in the February Steam Next Fest with an updated demo, we will also announce the exact date of release then. Can't wait to see all your mods in the Workshop!

We're almost there. Two and a half years since alpha was released on Itch, in March it will be exactly 5 years since I wrote the very first line of code for the engine under Soulash. Failed Kickstarter along the way. I can't believe we're so close to actually finishing the game, and it would not have happened if I didn't have your amazing feedback, support, and high expectations that pushed me so far. Together with Xiclu, our incredible artist, I would like to thank each and every one of you for sticking with us on this journey. I can't wait to show you what I have planned for the next couple of years. We're going to push the traditional roguelike genre much, much further! It's going to be amazing.
